Bibi Art Smile (Asmahiel)

Bibi is an Uzbek and Ukrainian artist, born in the Netherlands in November 1997. Coventry has been her hometown since the age of eight, when she moved to the UK with family. She started taking her artistic studies to the forefront of her education during A-levels, and has since been working and studying in the realm of fine arts. From September 2018, Bibi spent one year in Bologna, Italy, on the Erasmus+ programme. There she experienced a buzzing vibrancy and soul that she wishes to emulate.

Bibi aims to play an active part in the art industry and community, through study, practice, and work. Throughout her education, a spark of curiosity has fuelled the determination to take teachings to heart and become serious about art. Bibi's background is multi-faceted and international, for which reason she aims to be culturally connected in my practice, keeping an eye out for context, both historical and modern.

Her practice is a chromatic and linear study of the soul. It explores chromatology and other art theory; historical and contemporary contexts, sociology, environmental studies, philosophy, semantics, semiotics, consciousness and states of mind. This is achieved through the study of oil painting, drawing, and their respective techniques. While undertaking a placement as a scenic artist for theatre has introduced her to an exciting range of modes of representation and ways of working. Being in a workshop, as well as the open studios at university, opened her eyes to the possibilities behind creating.

Another key aspect of Bibi's art sphere is living in Coventry. It is a city beaming with potential. It is a melting pot of culture and diversity, which she am proud to be a part of.

Her plan for the future involves many facets of fine art, including working as a freelancer and collaborating with others and in all aspects she aims to work with awareness and consciousness to the best of my abilities.

Bibi primarily paints using the oil medium, but works in mixed media wherever it is suitable.
